Songfacts:

There are a lot of transcriptions of Georgia On My Mind. But we pretend that the only jazzinotes' one is authentic and note-for-note. In any case the quality is undoubtably excellent.

Georgia On My Mind was composed by the US musician Hoagy Carmichael, who first published 1930 a recording of this song. Afterwards there were some other interpretations who entered the charts. The interpretation of Louis Armstrong of 1933 is still famous, but at the time not very successful. Only in 1960 the song climbed till #1 of the US single charts in the interpretation of Ray Charles. Today the song is the inofficial hymn of the US state Georgia, although the original lyrics seem to be written not for the state, but for a woman called Georgia. Today there are countless cover versions, e.g. from Django Reinhardt, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, James Brown, Van Morrison, Hildegard Knef and also from Oscar Peterson.

The interpratation of the Oscar Peterson Trio was published on the probably most know album of the trio: Night Train (1963). With Oscar Peterson (piano) are playing Ray Brown (double bass) and Ed Thigpen (drums). One reason, why this Grammy awarded album (best instrumental jazz) was so successful, are the quite short tracks according to radio airplay.

With the score (piano & double bass, 5 pages) you also get the parts of the piano (4 pages) and double bass (2 pages).
