Songfacts:
Although Laurent Leroi, with his diverse bands and ensembles, has delighted audiences in performance, internationally he has remained a well kept secret. Which is unfortunate, in light of the some of the great reviews he’s had, such as this one from Jazzpodium: ‘What makes this music so irresistible is its transparency. (…) The principle is simple: reduce a song to its essence, and it will develop a new of itself. Only real masters of their instrument can pull off this supposedly simple way of making music.’ Or from the Mannheimer Morgen newspaper: ‘Above all, Laurent shines as a remarkably mature soloist who has managed to find a highly original balance between the triviality of ‘‘Schlager’’, the burlesque of folk music and the cunning art of improvisation (Thelonius monk sends his regards). He’s a funny guy, always up for a joke.’
This Strassburg born Accordion player Leroi and his many projects are predominantly known in Mannheim, but their concerts have taken them as far as Latin America.
