Songfacts:
The canon in D major, original title "Canon a 3 Violini con Basso Continuo", often abbreviated as "Canon in D", is the most famous composition by the Nuremberg baroque composer Johann Pachelbel (1653 - 1706) today. It is a three-part canon that runs over a bass stinato. Together with the canon parts, this results in the famous, sequenced chord progression D-A-b-f sharp-G-D-G-A. The occasion was probably the wedding of Johann Christian Bach, the older brother of Johann Sebastian Bach, in 1694.
The Japanese jazz pianist Hiromi (Hiromi Uehara, * 1979 in Hamamatsu) interprets the composition with a lot of humor and incredible virtuosity.
