Songfacts:

Scarborough Fair is an English folk song that dates back to the Middle Ages. During this time, the northern English coastal town of Scarborough was an important marketplace where merchants from all over Europe met. The song became famous in the 20th century. especially through the interpretation of Simon & Garfunkel on the album "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme" from 1966.

The lyrics seem enigmatic. In each stanza, impossible-to-fulfill conditions are mentioned that must be fulfilled by the partner (in the original by the female partner) so that he (she) becomes the lover. The last stanza softens the strict demands somewhat in that it seems to be enough to attempt to fulfill these demands.

Rachel Hardy is a Canadian singer/songwriter with numerous pop/folk releases. Here is an overview.

The arrangement is based on the YouTube video. The piano and the lead vocal form the basis. Optionally, the backing vocal sung by Rachel Hardy herself in the video and a tin whistle voice, which can also be played by a soprano recorder, are also included.
