Songfacts:
This is an arrangement by Paul Riggenbach for easy piano: easy to play but nice to listen. The arrangement is close to the original recording of Firpo from the year 1916 (view video!).
La Cumparsita is probably the most famous tango. Gerardo Hernan Matos Rodriguez (1897-1948 in Uruguay) ist the composer. A composer collegue (Miguel Villasboas) tells that Rodriguez sold the composition fo 50 Pesos to an Argentine editor. The same day he bet this sum on a horse and lost.
"La cumparsita" means "carnival parade". The tune was originalliy composed for this purpose: as a march for a "murga" (street group) of the carnival in Montevideo.
