La Cumparsita is probably the most famous tango. Gerardo Hernan Matos Rodriguez (1897-1948 in Uruguay) ist the composer. A composer collegue (Miguel Villasboas) tells that Rodriguez sold the composition fo 50 Pesos to an Argentine editor. The same day he bet this sum on a horse an lost.
"La cumpersita" means "carnival parade". The tune was originalliy composed for this purpose: as a march for a "murga" (street group) of the carnival in Montevideo.
"Ercalilffo" is the pseudonym of the italian musician Franco Califano (1938-2013). He was composer, musician, producer, actor and writer.
